FM1518 Expansion Approved by TXDOT

One question that comes up a lot is "Why would anyone pay to go from 78 to 10 when there are other roads already there?" FM 1518, which extends from FM78 to IH-10, will be expanded to 4 lanes in the near future. TXDOT had several Open Houses about this project in the fall (see below). When asked, TTC and John Crew stated that this project was taken into consideration but they still feel the toll road will bring in enough revenue to be feasible. However, when asked for data to support this claim Mr. Crew and the other consultants couldn't provide any and directed citizens to contact his attorney. With the absence of any proof, how could a toll road be profitable with at least 3 nearby options? How can a costly 2 lane road (which is the current plan for Cibolo Parkway) be a better option than a free 4 lane road?
